Blending Images in Photoshop

1. Find 2 images that you want to merge/blend together. I will be using these two photos of Aly & AJ.

Picture 1
Picture 2

You can follow along with those 2 photos or pick 2 of your own. It would be better if it were of the same photoshoot. Because if the background color, etc. is different it’s harder to make it look nice with this blending method.

2. Create a new blank canvas (size 800×800 pixels). And paste the 2 images on that canvas. Note that the 2 images should be on different layers.

3. Select the selection tool And then match your selection settings to the following :

4. Select the top layer (aka the image on the top). Now make a selection on the area I put in yellow.

5. Now press delete 2 times on your keyboard. Delete a few more times if the part isn’t transparent enough to blend with the other image. After pressing delete, the edge of the image should be more transparent :

6. Drag the image on the top over the bottom image. So that it will blend together. If there are any edges that are still not fine enough, then repeat the Feather Selection process, but with a smaller selection. And then you can crop the image to the suitable size.

And you’re done!
