Physical Education Should Be Deemed Illegal

I’ve never been a very physically orientated person. I run away at the sight of balls, I cower when people run towards me and I can’t run without my face turning purple.

Yesterday, we had P.E. and we played tag, it seems harmless when you think about it, and I thought so too. I was like “Yay! Games!”, but who could predict the violent outcome?

We lined up in a row and we were supposed to run one by one. When it was my turn, I sort of half ran half jogged about one hundred centimetres (I don’t know how to measure in metres, sorry) and this guy who is the catcher just rushes real fast towards me like he’s trying to attack me, I didn’t even know he was that close to me. Then I trip over him because his leg got in my way. Nothing happened to him, but there I was, my entire being collapsing with a loud crack onto the gym floor. My legs were hurting so bad, I was like MY LIFE OVER, IM GONNA BE CRIPPLED, in my head.

So I was sitting there on the gym floor with a bruised hip, ego, arms and legs and feeling physically damaged. Everyone was just STANDING THERE. Even the teacher. No one said anything, even the said retard who tripped me over. After around 10 seconds, the teacher comes over, he spent those first 10 seconds stopping his stopwatch. He walks over slowly and tells me to stand up. I couldn’t, so he helps me. He tells someone to bring me over to the chair, so basically no one was bothered to apart from my friend who helpfully came over, thank god.

My skin pretty much tore off and I was sitting there trying to recollect myself, whilst everyone is running around happily but NOT getting hurt. After 5 minutes, the teacher tells me to participate again. So I’m like “What.” in my head but I don’t want to say anything. I was just thinking, aren’t I supposed to go to the nurse and get the wound cleaned in case of bacterial infection?

Apparently, westerners don’t believe in bacterial infection. Their theory is something along the lines of “GOT AN INJURY? RUN AND GET OVER IT, IT’LL HEAL EVENTUALLY.”

So I hate P.E. and the guy who’s over-obsessive-with-games-and-doesn’t-bother-to-apologize. I haven’t even had an injury in 5 years, I’d prefer if it stayed that way, thanks. Now I can’t walk properly because my hip is somewhat cracked due to my fragile bones and that I’ve had an operation there 2 years ago. I’m pretty much limping now.

Ouch! I know how bad those gym floors hurt! Ever try diving for a ball when you’ve got no kneepads on? I can’t believe that jerk didn’t even apologize or help you up!!

Dude, Rainie - how come you don’t have archives of your posts online?

Well anyway, I decided I’d blog about your blog, and try to feature a cool blog on mine for the month of september to get my blog more cross-blogged or something.

Keep writing - you’ll appreciate having written it all down back in the day when you knew everything.

    -marc (again)

I also blogged on my work stuff here: blog.globalgiving.com

I’m like that, too. The only thing I’m good at is flinging my limbs around and volleyball. Nothing else. Still, I get hurt a lot. URG. And my school requires 4 PE credits in order to graduate. I hate it.

I’m sorry you got hurt so badly. Guys are just horrible in PE. All they care is showing off and ego in class. Nothing else. They forced me to smell their armpits in basketball (aka defense) and then totally tripped me up in soccer. I hate it when PE teachers think co-ed is interesting and fun. That’s one good thing about Chinese people. We’re so paranoid sometimes, it keeps us away from going to the hospital. Westerners are so carefree… at least we wouldn’t end up like the poor people in House. They’re reckless sometimes :P No offense.

Well, I hope your record goes on longer for 5 years, Rainie! I hope your leg will feel better now.

Aww. I’m sorry.. feel better soon!

I know exactly how you feel. I was always the one that took score in Volleyball, and when a big debate came up on putting more P.E. in schools, I ripped someones head off over it. One time, a moron like that hit me in the face, and the nose piece on my glasses went in my eye… and they guy went right on playing while I was holding it in not to punch him.

Aw, well I hope you feel better soon!
P.E. can be good and fun or it can be lame. Sometimes it depends on the teacher too.

Ouch.I feel exactly like you-PE should be ILLEGAL-It looks easy and fun,,but it’s not-especially if you’re stuck with a bunch of tards who apparently haven’t heard of sympathy.
I’ve gotten hit a gazillion times during basketball, but no one cares-the ball is more precious than human life.

Oh yeah, I can see how that situation with the guy helping you pick up the papers would be awkward, especially since you didn’t know him that well. It reminds me how on TV and in the movies, if a guy helps a girl pick something up, it means he likes her. I think that’s a load of BS, though. :P

I agree, the flavored goldfish crackers definitely taste really artificial. I love the pizza ones anyway. xD Only the flavor-blasted pizza goldfish, though. It HAS to be those. They are the only type of goldfish I will eat. ^.^

Ugh, man, that sucks sooooo much. I can’t believe the stupid gym teacher told you to participate after five minutes. It’s not like he even asked if you were feeling well enough to participate; he just COMMANDED you. That is completely ridiculous. I feel like something similar has probably happened to me before, but I can’t think of an example. =/

I hope you feel better soon! Maybe you should go see a doctor about your hip after the fall. Or wait, have you already? Is that how you know it’s cracked?

Woah, Harsh. I hated my Gym teacher back in the day. He was a jerk and swore at all the kids. I was never very fit in school so it made it hard for me to do things, too..
It’s easier if you start at a gym of with a private trainer, etc and build up your fitness before doing anything that’s mandatory. Even if this is unrealistic.

lol.I really don’ understand how my teacher’s brain works.
Maths is not my best subject,so yeah, whether I ignored him or not,it didn’t really help-I flunked either way.
So happy I don’t have maths anymore.

Wow. That seems painful. Although I agree that your teacher is annoying and useless. I don’t think PE should be illegal. I think PE is very healthy and helpful.

I hope you’re okay. I’m glad that you had your friend around to help you up. I hope that your wound wasn’t infected.

your teacher seems mean o.O he should’ve sent you to the nurse or someone! x.x that’s one of the reasons why i never liked PE much.. cause people would get all into it and some people would get hurt =/

Awww, sorry about your friendship problems. Baby steps! I’m sure you’ll be able make friends soon - there’s always university; and from my understanding uni friends tend to be more long lasting than high school friends.

I agree - not everyone has to date in high school. It’s a shame some people think so though.

100cm is a metre by the way :P So now you know how to convert cm’s to m’s! ;)

My gosh, what a prick, didn’t even apologise! Maybe you should complain to the school about the lack of OHS (occupation health safety) taken when you were injured because of your hip operation?

I remembered my primary school used ant-bacterial/disinfection, but I don’t think many people in high school get serious scrapes and wounds anyway. Usually sprained ankles or wrists.

Aw, wow, just a simple game of tag, and you like, died? :( That’s so sad, heh! And what a jerk for not apologizing to you! He was probably really ugly anyways, right? :P

Hopefully your P.E experiences in the future won’t be quite as bad! :) I remember one time like a year ago, we were playing soccer during P.E, and I tripped over this girl and did like, a very twisted, weird back flip. It was quite embarrassing |: So you’re not the only one, hahaha!

I’m sorry that your skin ripped up. I am a Physical Educator myself and if open wounds occur I make sure I wrap them up or give my students something to wrap it up if they don’t feel comfortable having me do it. Then I make sure they go to the nurse and get it checked. I’m not sure why that PE teacher would have neglected your open wound.

Having said all of this, if you can’t “run without your face turning purple,” then I think Physical Education is imperative. I think you should ask your teacher if he/she was aware you had a large open wound - they might not have been aware. I know as a Physical Education teacher my students do not always tell me what happens to their body - and if they don’t tell me the only way I know something happened is if I see it (in your case the wound) with my own eyes.

You wrote this back in August and I’m in the process of writing my own curriculum when I stumbled upon this from a google search. I really hope your experiences in the future are much more positive. You should not walk out of PE feeling embarrassed or angry. Then again, some of my students do from time to time, but I’d like to think 99% of the time they walk out with big, confident smiles on their faces. Hope things are going better and have a Happy Thanksgiving! :D
